USAPL VA Open 02/28/2009

Summary

Hello Everybody,

This past weekend Team Force competed in the USAPL VA Open, we had 5 lifters and all performed well.  This is was our first and certainly not our last meet with the USAPL.  The meet was held in Stanardsville, VA with 50 lifters.

Pat had a great meet going 9 for 9 and hitting meet PR's in all lifts.  Her strong focus and her ability to improve her form as the weight gets heavier was very admirable.  She set herself up very well to perform nicely at Nationals in July.  I think she is enjoying her new belt too .

Justin did his first meet with the squat included.  He did very well going for 3 for 3 in the squat and 3 for 3 in the deadlift.  He made his opening bench and knew his shoulders weren't quite up to par.  He had the best squat to bodyweight of our group.

Vadim did very well in his second meet.  He made all of his third attempts and his only mistake was poor form on the very first squat (easy to do with amped up nerves) but he made a come back and hit all of his numbers.  He had not been able to deadlift for a full month and yet still set a PR in that and every other lift.  He improved his total by 60 lbs in the last several months, very impressive, and he has more left in the tank as the video will show.

John did his first powerlifting meet ever and went 8 for 9, very respectable.  He benched a very impressive and hard fought 350 lbs and pulled 585 which is excellent for a first timer.  Personally I think he should lift at 242 (and get out of my weight class) but he is a big boy and he can do what he wants.

I performed adequately.  I benched more than I had in the last 3 years so that was nice but I did miss a shot at a Lifetime PR on the bench, next time it goes up.  Deads weren't as strong as usual but I am going to attribute that to having to alter my training for them due to some injuries which should be healed up shortly.

Overall we had 4 first place finishes, 1 second place and Team Force took first as a team.  We all qualified for Raw Nationals which is July 24-26th, 2009 in Charlottesville, VA.

Vadim filmed the meet and the videos are available on youtube.  Here they are.  He tried to put captions on them but they did not seem to show up, the weights are listed in the title.  If there are any errors or if you want your videos removed just let us know.

If you guys have any questions keep me posted.  There are still a few chances to qualify for Nationals if you missed this one but you do have to qualify by getting a total of the three lifts in a USAPL meet before Nationals.  See me if you have any questions.  Congrats again to the Team.

    Tim
